Nearly 40% of all the callouts we receive involve potential or actual data loss.
It may be a virus, or accidentally downloaded malware of some kind, or some kind of file corruption or physical hard drive failure. You never know what’s round the corner. But one thing’s for certain, if you use a computer for long enough it is only a matter of time before you will lose something that matters to you.
It might just be a Word document you’ve accidentally over-written or a single folder of recently taken photographs you’ve just deleted from your camera thinking they were safe in your Pictures library. But it could be your whole C: drive including Windows, all your programs, all your emails and all your photographs and personal documents.
And a significant amount of businesses – both large and small – have gone out of business entirely as a result of critical data loss.
Hard drive failure and total file system corruption is much more common than you think. And you can take all the precautions you know about – but you will never be able to entirely prevent accidents.
So there is only one sensible course of action and all larger businesses already know this. You need to take regular backups. And you need to know how to recover everything from your backups. And you need to test the process.
